Course Description

Does compliance always mean safety?

Compliance and safety are two terms often used together, but do they mean the same thing? This course explores the critical distinction between building compliance and actual fire safety. Drawing from case studies and industry standards, it highlights how meeting the minimum Building Code requirements does not always equate to keeping building occupants safe. This course covers the role of fire safety engineers, the importance of holistic safety design, the risks of a compliance-only mindset, and the legal and ethical responsibilities that come with fire engineering practice.
